GROOMING

What the best way to groom your horse?

A basic grooming routine involves brushing all over your horse’s body, picking out the feet and brushing the mane and tail. Brush your horse’s body in the direction of the hair growth.

For a thorough, deep brush, use a stiff-bristled brush. For times of year that your horse sheds hair, use a hard-rubber curry comb, and use a softer brush for gloss, shine and dust removal.

You can use the grooming process not only to bond with your horse but also to check for any lumps, raw spots or cuts that may promote infection or disease.

TIP

  • Don’t forget to ensure your tack and equipment are thoroughly clean – this could help minimise the risk of infectious disease if your horse has any cuts or injuries.
