HERPES VIRUS

If a horse has recovered from equine herpes virus, is it still infectious?

Yes, it could be. A horse can transmit equine herpes virus after they appear to have fully recovered. A relapse of symptoms may result from a reactivation of the virus leading to further shedding. Horses that are stressed may be more likely to suffer viral reactivation and potentially infect other horses.
